Greenhouse Manager

Job Summary:
The primary role of the Retail Greenhouse Manager is to maintain effective daily operations of the staff on the retail greenhouse floor, in order to uphold our reputation as one of Western Canada’s premiere greenhouses.  Effective operation is defined as:

  1. efficiency in time management and task completion
  2. upholding the quality of product and presentation in the retail greenhouse
  3. upholding morale and a positive workplace for staff
  4. training for excellent customer service and salesmanship to maximize sales
  5. excellent attention to detail

The secondary role of this position is to assist Deanne by way of input when ordering product, and planning the execution of larger projects such as seasonal displays and changes to the greenhouse floorplan.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years experience as a retail manager with a minimum team of 15 employees. A positive, hard-working, and team-minded personality is required. Horticultural knowledge is not a requirement, but an interest in plants and a willingness to learn about plants is.  The candidate will be required to work 40 hours per week or more as seasonally required, with the flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities:
Decision Making and Initiative

  • Directing plant and pot displays and ensuring they are reading properly and producing sales.
  • Ordering product as needed to maintain or grow sales.
  • Reducing inventory write-offs of plant material.
  • Requesting signage and POP for key sales area.

Daily Duties

  • To ensure the work space is clean, organized and functional at all times.
  • To create a list of daily duties for the staff to ensure the department is always running smoothly and efficiently.
  • Maintaining constant communication with Deanne about top selling items and customer requests for placing weekly orders.
  • Execute display ideas, display changes and displayer requests.
  • To provide ongoing staff training in areas of customer service, plant knowledge, and company policies.
  • Staff scheduling for retail sales staff, watering staff, and stocking staff.

Hiring and Training of Greenhouse Staff
You will be involved in the hiring process of new staff. You will be responsible for supplementary training of new staff to ensure that they efficiently complete daily tasks and that they can be effective salespeople.

Storewide Lockup
You will be required to do a storewide lockup at a minimum of one day per week and will be required to frequently act as the Manager In Charge of the building.
